The initial goal of a new model railroader flush with locomotives, track, and rolling stock is to operate two trains on his layout at the same time, each with independent speed and direction control. The ptc model 4 (programmable turntable controller) is a user programmable turntable indexing system for use in new or existing n, ho, s, o, and some g scale turntables. The turntable's indexing positions are programmed into the ptc by the user, who "teaches" the ptc where the lead and service track positions are. The ptc does not use infrared diodes, tab stops, or any mechanical methods for indexing. Once programmed, the ptc remembers the user's track locations-- even when the system power is turned off. During operation, the user selects the desired lead or service track from the control panel. The ptc then automatically determines the shortest direction of travel, simulates turntable momentum by ramping up the bridge to a user-determined maximum speed, then ramps it down as it approaches the desired service or lead track location. The real beauty of the power cab is how easy it is to grow. As is, you can add an additional standard cab to the system to control more trains or add a second operator. These cabs are sold separately. The add-on cabs cannot do programming or create a consistent, but they can do all of the other functions needed to run a train or work stationary decoders. As others have stated, the controller is only used in conjunction with a reversing section. It adds nothing to the normal block control scheme when there is no reversing section. On the great eastern trunk, the controller is only for use with the atlas turntable. No turntable, no controller needed.

Posted by dknelson on saturday, march 19, 2016 12:24 pm the atlas selector and controller are meant for 2 rail trains, but using the common rail method of wiring blocks. They come with good instructions on how to use. At one time atlas published a good wiring book tailored (of course) to their products and it includes schematics for both. Mine is from 1958 and i have not seen what they offer now.
