What makes a good teacher? most of us have had at least one really great teacher and one really bad one. teacher coffee mugs <a href=present for a teacher personalized teacher mug " style="max-width:70%; margin:3px;" /> We know what we like and expect in a teacher and judge them based on that. I have had teachers over the years whom others have not liked. There were also other teachers i thought did a horrible job but other students thought were the best they ever had. Most of what people perceive as a good or bad teacher is usually based on things like personalities and preferred learning styles. But all good.

Education has a history of lurching from one miracle solution to the next. The best of them even do some good. Teach for america, and the dozens of organisations it has inspired in other countries, have brought ambitious, energetic new graduates into the profession. And dismissing teachers for bad performance has boosted results in washington, dc, and elsewhere. But each approach has its limits. Teaching is a mass profession: it cannot grab all the top graduates, year after year. When poor teachers are fired, new ones are needed—and they will have been trained in the very same system that failed to make fine teachers out of their predecessors.

Silent Students in English Class

In the early years of education students were punished for things such as writing left-handed and speaking a language other than english in the class room. In the years since then there have been many changes and advances in the field of education. These changes include everything from how to treat students in the classroom, to what to teach students, and which students were deemed fit to be educated. Another area, in which this profession has undertaken growth and development, is the qualities that teacher need to possess in order for them to become more effective in the education of their students. students In this paper i will discuss the qualities that are necessary for effective teaching, supported with information from an interview with dr. …show more content….

We can’t stress enough how frequently students equate school and boredom. Be the antidote to this association. Keep it lively, keep it unpredictable, find ways to help students associate lessons with personal experiences. Draw real-world events and examples into the classroom regardless of subject matter. If you teach history, draw parallels to today’s headlines. If it’s english, create opportunities for students to read self-selected material. If you’re a math teacher, i honestly don’t know. I was always much more of a history/english student. But you’ll figure it out. You’re a teacher. That’s what you do. Bring fresh perspective to your subject matter. Your students can get the boring version from the internet.

What makes a great teacher?: history is filled with classic stories of hero teachers. From mr. Holland’s opus, to robin williams’ portrayal of english teacher john keating in peter weir’s dead poets society through the wartime musical goodbye mr chips, all the way to mr. Miyagi. We’re all in awe of those remarkable teachers who have had a life-changing impact on their students. Whose teaching reached far beyond the lessons at hand into the very soul of the students and became a positive force in shaping their lives.

Put simply, the teachers who care the most, get the most out of their students and their students get a better english education. Dedication in esl teaching is about putting real thought and effort into every lesson plan. Some teachers here at york go to amazing lengths when preparing their classes, putting real thought into what the students will get out of every activity, squeezing every last drop of language from them and sequencing their classes so that the students are challenged every step of the way.

Language does not remain static – neither are the modes of language use and learning. They are constantly evolving. Hence, teachers must evolve. It can be achieved through refresher courses as well as paying attention to the news in the english language teaching field as well as other related fields. Technology is also important. Teachers need to understand how to exploit technology to teach language as well as how technology could change the way in which language is used. Language is not restricted to verbal communication anymore. It has been adapted to suit technology – abbreviated forms in texting, for example. Traditionally, language teachers used pen-to-paper writing practice in class yet now teachers should teach students how to write emails which would follow a different format and style. Besides, teaching and learning feed each other.

Interdependence 1. Imagination a teacher who is imaginative can do wonders in the english class. Their new ideas break monontony and make students take lively participation in the class. Albert einstein says thatt imagination is more important than knowledge. “human progress is possible only through education. Without imagination, education becomes a kind of intellectual recycling of the same knowledge passed from teacher to student and back to teacher on the test. Education should do more than simply transmit information; it should develop skills such as imagination that evolve our knowledge and move us forward as a species. ”.

By: cheryl bell patten what makes a good teacher? like all good recipes, the ingredients for a teacher's success in the classroom are simple, easy to follow, and allow for personal interpretation to enhance the result. Primarily, a teacher's goal is to motivate her students to reach beyond their grasp. Many children are keenly aware of their weaknesses and special education students are particularly sensitive to being "different". A good teacher helps the child realize her strengths and encourages and challenges the student to learn through those strengths. It is in the day to day process of reaching this goal that the ingredients for making a good teacher come into play.

Becoming a teacher is very hard. It takes a lot of education and knowledge before an aspiring person is able to instruct others. Becoming a good teacher is even harder as it requires even more education and knowledge as well as experience and properly developed teaching habits. While teaching one subject may be easier than teaching another subject, the truth is that some teachers have it harder than others do. A good example of this would be private music teachers. Private music teachers face a few difficulties that some other teachers don’t. Becoming a successful music instructor is difficult as it demands a lot more than just education and knowledge. First of all, music teachers need to be good musicians. This takes a lot of work, probably much more than the average school teacher has to go through. However, it doesn’t matter how good musicians are or how much they know, it will never guarantee that they will be able to successfully instruct developing students. Teaching music requires more than just advanced knowledge and skill. [thesis] a successful music teacher needs the ability to interpersonally connect with his/her students and to quickly adapt to a different teaching method that specifically targets every individual person.

When i decided to become an administrator, that spark of desire for greatness was rekindled and refocused: i wanted to inspire other teachers to be great and thus pass that on to their students. I’ve seen that spark of greatness in teachers when observing classrooms and watching teachers interact with students. I saw this greatness through students' eyes as i shadowed one student each from first grade, second grade, eighth grade, and ninth grade, attending all of their classes with them. In each, i marveled at the relationships forged by teachers, as well as their excitement and enthusiasm. I've witnessed similar elements of greatness firsthand, while spending hours at campuses and in teacher classrooms in all grades levels and in nearly every type of school.

Learning in the zone of proximal development means that the learning is hard enough to be challenging but not so hard that the learner feels defeated and tempted to give up. The tricky thing is that the zone isn’t the same for everyone in any class. See also: the elements of a good teacher (forum discussion) i run a website where a lot of kids hang out and talk about school and all sorts of things. Since this seems to be quite a problem for these young people, i have decided to ask them what they think makes a good teacher, and have compiled the results together in this guide which will hopefully prevent teachers who read it from becoming another heated discussion on my site.
