Group 1 attorneys (birth month january through june) are due to report compliance with the continuing legal education (cle) requirement during the 2020 attorney registration process. Pursuant to bcle reg. 402:1, attorneys who report that they have not completed the cle requirement by 12/31/2019 will be assessed a $50 noncompliance fee and given a grace period until 06/26/2020 to complete their cle requirement. Upon completion of the cle credits, they must return to the on-line registration system to report final compliance on or before 06/26/2020. After the expiration of the grace period, attorneys can no longer report cle compliance through the on-line registration system.
The district of columbia bar has no mandatory continuing legal education requirements at this time, which also means that we have no cle accreditation body and do not accredit courses. We do not certify cle providers or keep records of our members’ attendance at other providers’ cle courses for the same reason. While the d. C. Bar requires members to maintain their legal competence, we do not specify the means and do not require that attorneys submit attendance documentation from any courses they attend.
