Some people confuse impact drivers with hammer drills. Like regular drills, hammer drills are distinct from impact drivers and made for a different purpose. What a hammer drill is NOT

There’s a big difference between a standard impact drill and a hammer. An impact drill uses 2 ribbed disks that rotate in contact with each other. As the opposing ribs strike each other the impacts are transmitted to the drill bit, causing the characteristic ‘hammering’ sound.
