jake hillery is an inspirational customer of booksy that has created an empire in very little time. Barely 6 months after graduating from london school of barbering jake opened his first barbershop and 18 months later he had 4. With 5 shops under his belt and a growing barbering academy, it seems that he’s just getting started. Read more about his success story below. What lead you to become a barber? i used to get my hair-cut in my friend’s barbershop, dapper chaps, and i saw the crack and the great environment they worked in; they got to dress cool and had a laugh all day. I didn’t know what i wanted to do. I had always been into my fashion so i decided to give it a go and never looked back! what’s the best thing about being a barber? definitely the customers! every client has a different story, people’s lives are so interesting! what drives you to go further? just myself. I’m always trying to outdo myself, i am my own competition. What do you think is the key to success? positive thinking, if you have doubts you won’t take the risk how did you find out about booksy? i remember a barbershop that i used to go to had it and i thought the automatic texts were brilliant. Had you tried any other similar systems before? if so, what was the reason you chose booksy? we tried using a paper diary, haha – it wasn’t very organised, we searched for others but booksy looked by far the best. What’s your favourite feature? the blast messages as you can send offers, reminders and inform customers of important changes.
What other features have you found you like? the ability to have pictures of the staff is really cool as it’s clear who has appointments in the calendar and means that clients can book in with their favourite barber, even if they don’t know their name. What kind of changes have you noticed since using booksy? we have been getting bookings from people searching the booksy marketplace as they have liked the look of the quarters. How long before you started noticing these changes? it wasn’t long, within a few weeks. How has your work/life balance changed? booksy has been a lot of help, my customer success agent, elias, has given me a helping hand which has also taken a lot of weight off my shoulders. Owning 5 shops can be time-consuming but now i have time for me.
Image from joe leland unfortunately, many men today are missing out on the benefits of having a regular barber. As the barbershop tradition has faded, modern men just end up going to the closest unisex salon to get their hair cut. And each time they get they go, they end up with a different stylist and are forced to explain over and over again how they’d like it done. But “a little off the sides†means one thing to one stylist and another thing to another stylist. Stylists also have the tendency (in my experience) to try to correct what they see as mistakes that a previous barber/stylist made. Consequently, a man who goes to a unisex chain salon walks out with a completely different haircut at each visit. Not a good thing if you’re trying to maintain a consistent image.
Not many americans would consider going to a doctor who isn’t licensed to practice medicine. But what about your barber? your interior decorator? or the person who boxes your amazon delivery? today, these and dozens of other entry- and midlevel professions are covered by “occupational licenses. †in some states, more than 70 professions require licenses — and that doesn’t include the countless others that are licensed by local governments. And although this might sound like an obscure administrative issue, it has far-reaching consequences. Lawmakers, economists and activists have started to worry that over-licensing significantly limits professional opportunities for people who need them most.
Barbers operate out of a salon and style their client’s hair. Barbers are required to consult with clients to achieve their desired look and provide expert advice on how to maintain healthy hair with a range of salon products. Barbers are also required to groom facial hair too as well as endorse hair products.
I’ve decided to become a barber. I am a couple years off the point where i won’t have to worry about money. I won’t be rich, but i’ll be able to buy a place with no mortgage and therefore be free to work jobs i want, with periods of not working at all. Best of all i won’t have to have a corporate job ever again.
Mastersofbarbering / december 12, 2011 / customer service , how to be a barber / permalink when cutting hair in the barbershop , it is extremely important to stay on time. This statement can take on a few different meanings: 1. When taking appointments make sure to be on time for you clients. Schedule them far enough apart so if someone is 5-10 minutes late you won’t run late for the next customer. The only thing to be careful of is scheduling too far apart where you can’t get all of your customers booked and/or you have too few appointment slots in a day which will cost you money.

"i had the pleasure of attending blade craft barber academy in 2016. When i found out about bc i knew it would change my career as a men's focus hairstylist. The decor of the school is gorgeous, but i really enjoyed the small classes (as i don't do well in large groups). The attention i got to perfect my craft was amazing as i didn't get it in hair school.
I wouldn't have gotten a job at a few shops if i didn't attend blade craft! i still try and visit down in deep ellum!".

Before i could start my research i had to set up a plan. I didn't want to waste time researching on one thing, so i made a project plan. The project plan helped me spread out my time to research different subjects. During the past few weeks i've been studying: schools, styles, and materials. I spent 1-2 hours a day researching those different subjects. When i was researching schools, i reviewed two highly praised schools, northwest college and paul mitchel beauty school. I spent the hour researching tuition costs and location. While researching styles and materials, i spent my time looking at different pictures of haircuts and tools that were highly rated by barbers.

Now are they any good who knows i just see that almost every shop offers hair cuts and straight shaves. I would say like any place of business you have to think of what kind of demographic you want and cater to them the best you can. I know two people who own there own hair cut shops offering no shaves and they both do very well for them selfs one being a lady who caters to mens hair cuts and she is allways busy and the other being a younger buddy of mine who does alot of the fades and such and hes allways packed mostly with people he knows but still alot of business.

There are many clippers for casual users who want a good trim at home between salon or barber visits. If you want to be able to ditch the salon, you can invest in a professional clipper. It’ll give you more options and accessories than the at-home versions. You might need to brush up on how to use them properly. It’ll take some time to learn how to cut hair like a pro, but it’s certainly possible with a professional hair clipper.
