i used several military sleeping systems over the years and used the system you mention a couple times as warmth layers on different trips, and for others joining me. Remember the old army feather bag with the brass zipper up the middle? we were dirtbagging it back in the early 1980's and the feather bag was the cheap bag of choice.
Then the army came out with the sleeping system of 3 bags sandwiched together.
There are a whole bunch of good bags "out there", the whole spectrum of prices too … there is nothing that will screw up your next day worse than a cold night in a bag that didn't do what you'd thought or hoped it would from an outfitter i hunted with many seasons then worked seasonally for him as well i learned some important lessons - he swore by a military surplus down bag inside a "cowboy bedroll" and he looked like he was ready for a day in the canyons as he wriggled into his bedroll - i'm a hobby "seamster" (due to the fact that my grandmother was the sewing teacher for singer sewing machine in portland on morrison st for 26 years i suppose) one winter after hunting was over i started messing around with "bedroll ideas", came up with a simple design using 10 oz 100% cotton marine canvas (and zipper rather than the "burrito fold system") my outfitter friend and his kids who took over the business use them to this day - it changed the way i choose and use sleeping bags and when i'm in a tent camp now often i'll completely slip out of the bag and sleep on top of it, but in the bedroll envelope (ykk zippers to control outside air too) just a thought but i backpacked my bedroll system once and it was a bit heavier so probably not totally relevant here ……. Sorry.

Big agnes enjoys an excellent reputation for making sturdy, lightweight outdoor sleeping gear. Much of this rep comes with their copper spur hv ul tent, a three-season, freestanding tent that weighs just three pounds (two-person model). Two zipped doors provide easy access, and gear pouches keep your items at hand.
The two-pole design is quick to set up.
Real military surplus, high quality. This is what we do. We buy real government auctions, and pick out only items we would personally sell to friends and family to offer to our customers. If it doesn't meet that guideline, we simply do not sell it. We carry authentic military issue army surplus--most items do not have upc codes, because they were manufactured for military use. We do not peddle commercial-made knockoffs as many sites do; we offer first and foremost genuine military issue items, from : bdu/acu fatigues, combat boots, law enforcement equipment, outdoor gear, hunting & survival equipment, sleeping bags, camping supplies, duffle bags, polypro long johns, fleece jackets, ammo cans, and a lot more.
I used it for years in the army. Obscenely heavy. I think 11 pounds for the whole thing - bivy, 2 bags and stuff sack. We tended to shitcan the bags and use the bivy cover and a commercial sleeping bag along with a poncho liner.
I still have one that i use for a truck bag and car camping.
Posted by wenestvedt to sports, hobbies, & recreation (5 answers total) 2 users marked this as a favorite i would go ahead and wash it. I've washed plenty of sleeping bags before (only synthetic fill, never wash down-filled bags) and while it's never good for them as it will gradually reduce the fluffiness and therefore the insulation value of the stuffing over time, it's also never destroyed one. I always just do it on a gentle cycle and they dry on low.
These bags and sacks are like new. Like your typical usage, the nsn label is aging and difficult to read, but the quality of the bags are amazing. For the price, it's beyond difficult to compare to any products from rei or "bargain" sleeping bags. If you are serious about back packing and weight is an issue, this might not be the system for you. As an overall system, the weight is 9. 2 lbs with both stuff sacks. Without the mini stuff sack, you're looking at 8. 7lbs. A high-end system will cost up to 10x this system for what may be 50% reduction in weight. Your average, high-end intermediate bag (32 degrees to sub zero temps) can be 1 to 2 thirds the weight of this bag at 3 to 5x the cost. Just some perspective for prospective buyers.
A down sleeping bag can be a backpacker's greatest ally in the wilderness. If treated with care, a down sleeping bag can last for decades of frequent use, keeping you toasty warm on the trail. But many backpackers mistreat their down sleeping bags, letting grit and grime soak into them for years without a wash. Not only will this make for a super stinky sleep sack, but it will also eventually ruin the fabrics and decrease the loft and insulation of your bag.
Description: genuine issue item. Made in usa. The flexible varicom system consists of five interchangeable components, including the delta 30f sleeping bag, the gamma 0f sleeping bag, the varicom bivy and two compression stuff sacks. The system offers a temperature rating between 30f to -30f and even lower temperature ratings can be achieved if the system is used in conjunction with layers of extreme cold-weather garments. Both the delta 30f and gamma 0f sleeping bags feature climashield combat insulation and double-offset, differential-cut construction, which eliminates cold spots. Each bag has a nylon, ripstop outer and interior liner for durability and compactibility. The delta sleeping bag comes with an enhanced situational awareness (esa) hood, which provides coverage around the head, yet reduces sound-blocking fabric around the ears. This patent-pending hood maximizes awareness levels when sleeping in hostile conditions.
Here are some frequently asked questions about sleep apnea referenced from the american academy of sleep  medicine.
Sleep apnea is a serious health condition. It is an important predictor of heart disease.
It can cause you to fall asleep while driving, can lead to changes in brain structure, and can affect your ability to convert short-term memories into long-term memories. According to the mayo clinic, there are several types of sleep apnea, but the most common is obstructive sleep apnea. This type of sleep apnea occurs when your throat muscles intermittently relax and block your airway during sleep. A noticeable sign of obstructive sleep apnea is snoring. Risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea include excess weight, narrowed airways, hypertension, smoking, genetic factors, chronic nasal obstruction, neck size, and diabetes. Thinner individuals can also develop obstructive sleep apnea.
Although, sleep apnea is one of the harder conditions to get rated on unless there is a clear diagnosis in one’s medical records it is not impossible. Here are the steps that are needed to filing a successful sleep apnea claim and improving your chances of getting it rated. You must have a medical diagnosis of the condition. Veterans cannot merely complain about the symptoms and file for the condition. A veteran looking to file for sleep apnea should have done a sleep test at an approved sleep clinic and or at your own home using a certified home test provided by a sleep lab.
Diagnosis of sleep apnea veterans that wish to obtain a va sleep apnea rating should first get a diagnosis from the appropriate medical professional. Veterans should take part in a sleep study. These can be performed at a sleep clinic or sometimes in your own home. Veterans want to provide the va with strong evidence of a sleep apnea diagnosis to be eligible for benefits.

04 sep 2018, 10:09 a story has been doing the rounds on the internet about a supposed method used by the us military to help people fall asleep. The information comes from a 1981 book called relax and win: championship performance , with the story being picked up by writer sharon ackman on medium back in july. In the book, readers are told how to relax, and also how to fall asleep within two minutes, something apparently employed by the us military.
A clandestine cell system is a method for organizing a group of people such as resistance fighters, sleeper agents , or terrorists so that such people can more effectively resist penetration by an opposing organization (such as law enforcement or military). In a cell structure, each of the small group of people in the cell only know the identities of the people in their cell. Thus, a cell member who is apprehended and interrogated (or who is a mole ) will not likely know the identities of the higher-ranking individuals in the organization.
The popular military method, which was first reported by sharon ackerman , comes from a book titled “relax and win: championship performance. â€according to ackerman, the united states navy pre-flight school created a routine to help pilots fall asleep in 2 minutes or less. It took pilots about 6 weeks of practice, but it worked — even after drinking coffee and with gunfire noises in the background.
It looks like there is finally a fool-proof solution that could let you enjoy sound sleep within a couple of minutes. And guess who brought this piece of golden advice to the table? the us military. In as little as 120 seconds, a secret us military method featured in 'relax and win: championship performance' can help anyone doze off to glory.

By chris attig anybody can go online and find the sleep apnea va disability rating criteria on the va rating scheduleyou may have found this page searching for that very phrase. And, if all you are looking for are the percent levels for ratings for sleep apnea in a va claim, well, a lot of websites with thin content are more than happy to oblige.
Yes. The benefits of the molle setup are many in number. First, the interior of a molle pack has several locking pouches for securely transporting small items. A hydration pouch(sort of like the camelbak stuff) is included in most packs – thus eliminating the need for a canteen. The strap system allows for individuals to customize the pack for carrying the gear they need. Access to gear is simple and quick – because you can attach your gear in so many ways, nothing is out of reach. On the large models, there is an internal sleep system carrier which has a zipper for easy access.
Bought two of these bags based on description which stated "brand new". Honestly, after 21 years in the army, i don't believe there is such a thing with these older mod bags. I wish the description was more clear, and in my opinion should have read very good to excellent used condition, which they are. They are in great shape overall with one black bag having some minor abrading around the top velcro closure. The other had what appeared to be minor soap residue, probably from the quartermaster laundry before being stored. One of the stuff sacks was missing the nsn label, stitching still there, with some minor dirt staining still present. Again not a big deal, worth every penny, just wish the description was more clear. In my opinion, the older bags were a little warmer than the newer acu ones, and the camouflage is actual camouflage that may actually serve its intended purpose. But just my opinion. Thanks.
product came quickly and well packaged. The sleep systems arrived inside their stuff sacks (although it is your typical stuff sack and not the military 9-strap sacks. I would recommend buying those as they are better designed to go with the sleep system). We used our sleep systems on our latest camping trip over thanksgiving in western md. The temps got between the 20's and 30's. Our sleep systems were super warm, in fact i even got a little hot sometimes! of course, you can easily detach the layers if you only want to use one or two of the bags.

I recently was pulling up the info on some of the kit i carried in iraq during the surge in 2007-2008 as a security forces officer and wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for the great products you produce for the military! i never had to worry about my comfort in one of your bags and i continue to use the equipment as i take my son camping and he begins his boy scout experience. Thanks for making a quality product that stands-up under what we put equipment through and then some!.
The new center zip military sleeping bag & bivi. The military bag is a modern version of the original design that the military used during the korean war; a center zip bag. A center zip bag is actually the best design for military application. When soldiers are in a combat zone they do not have the time to strip down and therefore they sleep in their clothing. In the event of an attack while sleeping, exiting their sleeping bag as quickly as possible becomes paramount. The wiggy version of a sleeping bag and bivi bag provides the easiest access from a sleeping bag while giving the greatest comfort.
